So I make a stop at Walgreen's this morning and as I'm getting out of my car I hear someone hollering at me in a pleasant manner. WTH? I glance around and notice a young lady parked two spaces down getting out of her car. She's in a Walgreen's uniform and I give her a 'huh?' look, then she laughs and says "Oh I thought you were, Toni!". Then she comes over as we both walk to the store and gives me a friendly half hug, which I return and we laugh together and chat for a few minutes about how it started off our day with a funny story.

So why is this important? She's black and I'm white and neither of us cared. We were instantly comfortable in each others' presence and since I'm often at that location, (which is in a predominantly black neighborhood) I made sure to introduce myself and ask for her name. Things don't have to be crazy. As a nation, we can heal if everyone focuses on being positive with each other and not vengeful or fearful.
