UPDATE 5/28/12: Little guy is still being rehabilitated which means he's still alive and eating and growing! I'd say he'll make to be released back into the wild!

Photo taken by my husband's phone, I (frown) never got to met the little guy.

A killdeer chick that was given to my husband while he was at work yesterday (teacher). Another teacher found this little guy all by his lonesome in the parking lot of their school and couldn't find his mother or his siblings. He heard my husband took care of birds (because of knowing me and my birdie love!) so he brought this chick to him in a box during class.

My sweet hubby waited until our local bird rehab center opened that evening and drove him there to be cared for and wild released once he's old enough. We've rescued mockingbirds and doves the last two years.

I'll update once I know more!

Aww, I love killdeer, they're so cute. We have a lot here in Mississippi, too. I can hear them on a daily basis.

At my college, I recently found a baby cardinal, barely fledged, and rescued him from some people who were planning to step on him. After six days of trying to find a rehabber to take him (Most of them just told me to put him back where he was, even though his parents weren't around and people were trying to harm him there.) I found some cardinal parents who were taking care of a fledgling his age, and so I placed him nearby in some bushes to see if they showed any interest in him. Since I had him for so long, I was worried he would just walk up to someone to beg for food, but I watched for hours and he didn't. He actually hid in the bushes, got quiet when anyone walked by, and generally acted like a normal fledgling should.

Soon enough, the parents started feeding him, and even protected him when I went to check up on him. The male was especially aggressive about me being there and caused quite the commotion! The little guy also ran away from me, showing no interest in people. So, after six days of taking care of him, I was extremely happy that he could be returned to an environment where he belongs. :)
